Kailash Gahlot Transport & Environment minister of Delhi has announced that the Delhi Govt has decided to exempt road tax on the battery-operated vehicles under its new Electric Vehicle Policy 2020. For the purpose, a notification was issued on 10 Oct 2020. This decision has been taken by the LG of Delhi , Anil Baijal, with an immediate effect.
Along with the exemption, right incentives and supporting infrastructure will also be provided.
This is being done to ensure that Delhi leads the india in the context of rapid transition from regular vehicle to Electric Vehicles.
The decision is a step forward to ensure pollution-free Delhi. This incentive-based policy will encourage the adoption of electric vehicles on a large scale. Govt decision is in line with the Delhi Govt’s dream of making Delhi- The Electric Vehicle Capital of India.
Arvind Kejriwal CM of Delhi had announced the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2020 in August 2020. Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy is aimed at increasing the adoption and use of electric vehicles in the city. For boosting the purchases, Delhi govt is also providing the purchasing incentives. Under the policy, an assistance of Rs. 1.5 lakh will be given on car purchases, Rs. 30 thousand will be given for the 2-wheelers purchase and Rs. 30 thousand would be given for e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws purchase. Delhi government has aimed to register around 500,000 electric vehicles in Delhi by 2024.
