Ph.D. Programmesin Physical, Chemical, and Biological Sciences
The S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, a premier autonomous research institute fully aided by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India invites eligible candidates with consistently good academic record (First Division/Class) to appear in the walk-in interview for admission into the Ph.D Programme in Physical, Chemical & Biological Sciences for the Academic Year 2018-19. The programme is fully residential and the students are offered on-campus accommodation and boarding facilities. The Centre charges no fee for the programme. All students joining the centre get contingency grants to meet research contingency expenses that include expenses for attending conferences and training programmes in India. The students also get generous support to attend International Conferences outside India from the Centre.
Qualification : M.Sc/Masters with First Class/Division i.e., minimum 60% in aggregate (55% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology
Further Qualifications required in addition to Basic Qualification : CSIR-NET-JRF OR UGC-NET-JRF (Dec 2016, June/Dec 2017, June/Dec 2018) with valid award letter OR INSPIRE – PROVISIONALLY SELECTED and Award Letter to be valid upto 01.04.2019. It is mandatory that the applicants with “Provisional INSPIRE Award” should also have qualified a National Level Test (NLT) like JEST or GATE at the time of application.
Fellowship : In line with the rules of Funding Agency. For the first two years, one will get fellowship as Junior Research Fellow(JRF). Thereafter, upon meeting the eligibility criteria of the funding agency, the students will be upgraded as Senior Research Fellow(SRF). The programme is strictly residential and all students will be provided on campus accommodation.
Age Limit : None. However, the last Qualifying University examination (M.Sc.) should have been taken not earlier than 2017.

The Centre was established to honour the life and work of Professor S. N. Bose who was a colossal in theoretical physics and has made some of the most fundamental conceptual contributions in the development of Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Statistics.
